Outbound Latin American travel spending is booming again. Latin Americans will spend about $16 billion abroad in 2004, $1.5 billion more than last year, and 2005 promises another year of double-digit growth. A collection of cultural and economic factors are driving this growth. For one thing, the rebound in regional currencies has made foreign travel more affordable to the professional classes. In addition, travelers are adapting to the increased restrictions imposed by US immigration authorities by finding other destinations. So this year, instead of heading for Disney, venturing Latin families may opt for a Caribbean cruise, catch the Euro-train or view Niagara Falls from the Canadian side.
