The Three Tiers of Latin America’s Logistics Market - May 2005 |

Most global logistics players were drawn to Latin America through the demands of their clients who began heavily investing in the region in the 1990s. Whereas American heavy industry has dominated FDI flows in Mexico, that was usually the first point of entry of their logistics suppliers. European FDI has flowed principally into Mercosur so logically their logistics suppliers began their foray into Latin America through Brazil or Argentina. The slowdown in Argentina since 1997, culminating in its collapse late in 2001 has led to a paralysis of its logistics market, even a reversal outsourcing trends. For the last five years, and likely for the next five, Mexico and Brazil will dominate new demand for outsourced logistics.
