What is the largest non-food industry in Latin America? Surprisingly, the answer is logistics and transportation — the movement and storage of goods. Somewhere between 10% and 12% of GDP is spent on L&T (logistics & transportation). The industry is proportionately larger than its US counterpart, which accounts for some 7-to-8% of GDP. The difference is explained more by Latin American inefficiency than by a more aggressive investment strategy.
