 In May 2004, the InfoAmericas Financial Services Practice published Sending the Money Home: The Latin American Remittance Market. The article identified remittances as the largest source of capital inflows into the region after FDI, and also stated that remittances are not strongly affected by economic downturns and may even grow in times of crisis. Furthermore, InfoAmericas predicted that remittances channeled through Money Transfer Organizations (MTO’s) such as Western Union and MoneyGram would fall by up to 25%.
