These are bittersweet times for Impressos Dos Santos, a mid-sized printing company in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The company is on the verge of landing a pilot contract with a multinational firm that could lead to an elusive, long term contract. One of the stipulations is that the printer must provide access to its layout system via a broadband Internet connection.
This would be a minor issue in the US, but most of Belo Horizonte has no DSL or cable Internet access. A dedicated T1 link would cost thousands of dollars per month, and Dos Santos managers are having a hard time swallowing costs of this magnitude for a project that may or may not provide future inflows
