In 1997, with a GDP of US $800 billion growing at nearly 3 percent annually, Brazil was the darling of foreign investors. Between 1997 and 2000 they poured in more than US $100 billion in FDI, betting on both the largest domestic market in Latin America and the export opportunities through Mercosur. |
