Like endangered species, the list of Latin America's banks grows shorter each year. In retail and investment banking, customer service and brand loyalty can help niche and provincial banks to survive in spite of inefficiencies. Not so for Trade Finance, where bigger really is better. In light of this reality, competitors are consolidating at an accelerated pace, and a small group of American and European banks are beginning to dominate regional trade finance.
